A Rich history lives here.

The Historic Jayhawk Theatre is a 1926 architectural landmark in downtown Topeka, Kansas, recognized as Kansas’ Official State Theatre and the city’s last remaining historic theater. Community leaders, volunteers, and supporters are working to restore its original splendor and transform it into a modern venue for live entertainment, film, dance, and special events.

Renovation of the Jayhawk honors its past while giving the building new life and purpose as a cultural anchor for downtown, supporting growth, economic development, and quality of life. The theatre originally opened to showcase cutting-edge film technology, closed in 1974, and was later revived through grassroots advocacy that led to its designation as the State Theatre of Kansas in 1993.
